The Swanscombe Peninsula is once again under threat of destruction by the proposed London Resort theme park, previously known as London Paramount.
This website originally focussed on the previous theme park threat, highlighting the wonderful wildlife, habitats and landscape of the Swanscombe Peninsula in North Kent – and the grossly inappropriate theme park development that threatens to destroy it.
We are updating this front page to reflect ongoing challenges and events.
Local campaigners urge the BBC to withdraw their commercial interest and partnership from the proposed London Resort – February 2021
Representatives of Save Swanscombe Peninsula have written to the BBC to complain about the BBC’S commercial interest in the proposed London Resort theme park, which currently threatens the Swanscombe Peninsula in North Kent. The Save Swanscombe Peninsula group believe any such interest is in direct conflict with the BBC’s Greener Broadcasting strategy.
The campaigners are asking the BBC to withdraw their commercial interest and partnership from the proposed London Resort, or to publicly state why the BBC is continuing to support such a damaging development.
Wildlife charities unite against theme park – January 2021
Kent Wildlife Trust, the RSPB and Buglife have united to save one of Kent’s most important wildlife sites. The three organisations are urging the Government’s environmental advisor Natural England to protect the Swanscombe Peninsula by declaring it a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
On 8th January 2021 the groups presented a “Rationale for the SSSI designation of the Swanscombe Peninsula” to Natural England, alongside a letter signed by 77 current and former senior staff from nature organisations and public bodies.
SSSI designation for the Swanscombe Peninsula will offer significant protection. However, it may not be enough to stop the proposed London Resort theme park.
